Ushers are temporary, at-will employees.
OBJECTIVE A: Provide quality customer service to patrons attending events in the performing arts venues and assist in event preparation and conclusion.
- Arrive on-time in appropriate dress for scheduled shifts (or obtain replacement if unable to work.)
- Assist with event programs. Duties include stuffing programs with inserts, distribution of programs to stands, maintenance of programs and collection of programs at events’ end.
- Attend Pre-Event meeting for job assignment and event specifics.
- Ability and willingness to work any assignment. (Assignments may include checking patrons’ coats and belongings, taking tickets, handing out programs, escorting patrons to seats, etc.)
- Be in assigned area by designated time.
- Understand and perform duties of assignment as listed in Venue Assignment Checklist.
- Monitor physical surroundings in assigned area prior to and throughout event for safety, cleanliness and functionality; contact the House Manager with questions, comments, or concerns.
- Respond quickly and courteously to patrons’ needs, questions, comments, or concerns with answers and/or action.
- At event’s end, walk through assigned area retrieving lost items, cushions, etc. and turn them in accordingly.
OBJECTIVE B: Attend meetings and job trainings as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Excellent communication and problem solving skills, including ability to maintain composure under stress.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Understand and adhere to established policies and procedures.
- Actively assist with established Front of House emergency procedures. (Familiar with location and operation of emergency exits and equipment.)
- Assist House Manager with procedures for injuries, medical problems, etc. (Familiar with location of defibrillator.)
- Assist patrons with disability-related issues.
- Ability to provide accurate knowledge to patrons regarding venue logistics (i.e. location of ticket office, restrooms, phones, concessions, coat check, etc.), information about the event, general building history, etc.
- Ability to read event ticket (visual acuity corrected to read as small as 11-font print) in dim lighting with use of provided flashlight if necessary.
- Ability to repeatedly climb stairs – up and down – to ensure effective event procedure in all areas of theatre.
- Ability to stand for long periods, sometimes throughout an entire event.
- Work all assigned shifts and arrive at posted call time (or obtain replacement.)
- Adhere to dress code.
- Commit to one year of service.
- Work in all three buildings.
- Willingness to work a variety of events.
- Open to wide range of diversity.
- Paid staff work a minimum of eight events each month. Additional shifts may be required in a given month.
- Work flexible hours, including nights and holidays.
- Work two Saturday or Sunday shifts per month.
- Only one Black Box or Studio Theatre event counts towards the monthly requirement.
- Volunteer staff work a minimum of three events each month. Additional shifts may be required in a given month.

- Attend required trainings and meetings.
- Usher training sessions and meetings (Patron Services New Hire, Emergency Procedures, Sexual Harassment, Americans with Disabilities Act, etc.)
- On the job training is provided.
