Paul Northway and Bryan Larsen to Exhibit at the Rose Wagner Art Gallery
September 8 – October 27, 2006
Salt Lake County Center for the Arts is proud to present mixed media sculptures by Paul Northway and a collection of paintings by Bryan Larsen. This exhibit runs from September 8 through October 27, 2006 at the Rose Wagner Art Gallery, 138 W. Broadway (300 S.), Salt Lake City.
Paul Northway’s artwork examines the various roles of father, husband, son, and brother, referenced from daily rituals and lifelong experience. The creative impetus of his recent work surfaced from the observation of childhood curiosity. “By revisiting my childhood frame of mind, I achieve the physical, chemical, and biological possibilities bestowed through “make believe”. Emerging as a bridge between the intuitive, and the methodical, my work fuses candid childhood discovery with adult vision.”
Paul received his MFA in Montana and is currently teaching at the Southwest School of Art and Craft in San Antonio, Texas.
Bryan Larsen’s paintings combine distilled elements of human life and achievement that he finds particularly beautiful or important – “to portray a world in which I hope the viewer would wish to live.” Architecture and romanticism are central themes in his work, with an emphasis on contemporary subject matter; however, he uses classical, representational techniques. He describes his style as Romantic Classical Realism.
Recently he has been focusing more on the human figure – using body language, posture and facial expression to communicate themes without relying solely on background elements to provide context. Some of these pieces are studies of a particular texture, color combination or brush technique, while others are a combination of these to achieve a more specific and thematic purpose.
A self-taught artist, Bryan Larsen was born and raised in the Salt Lake City area. He sales his work through the Quent Cordair Fine Art Gallery in the San Francisco bay area, and works out of his home studio in Draper, Utah
The Rose Wagner Art Gallery is open during regular business hours, unless a ticketed event is taking place in the theatre. It is also available to patrons attending Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center events. Works of art in this exhibit are for sale by the artists.
